CURRENT STATUS GUYANA:

The Governments of Guyana and Suriname are to meet and discuss the modalities for the financing and execution of the Bridge Feasibility Study.

The Government of Guyana approved the sum of USD 1.2 million in the 2014 National Budget to carry out preparatory works for the approach roads to the proposed Bridge across  the Corentyne River.

A new administration was elected to office in Guyana in May 2015 and have determined bridging of the Corentyne River to be a priority.  Through the intervention of UNASUR in February 2016, Guyana has offered to prepare the Terms of Reference for the Feasiblity Study for a bridge across the Corentyne River.  Guyana awaits response from UNASUR or Suriname to meet and discuss the draft Terms of Reference that has already been prepared.

CURRENT STATUS SURINAME:

Jointly the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Suriname and Guyana have requested Technical Cooperation from the Inter-American Development Bank  for funding of the Feasibility Study.

Modalities for financing of the execution are jointly being identified.
